Interesting SitesThis page is a list of interesting sites, both accounting related and otherwise. If you know a site that you think is interesting, e-mail the information to us and if we think it is as interesting as you do, we will list it here. The list below is in no particular order. Just scroll through the page and see if anything strikes your fancy! If any of the links do not work, please send us e-mail so we can update the link. INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICENo certified public accounting firm website would be complete without a link to the Internal Revenue Service. It is an interesting site even if you are not a CPA. If the above link does not work try this one: IRS. NEW YORK STATE DEPARTMENT OF TAXATION AND FINANCEMost of our clients are located in New York and are subject to New York State taxes. Here is a link to the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance for tax information and tax forms. NEW YORK CITY DEPARTMENT OF TAXATION AND FINANCEMany of our clients are located in New York City which has its own income taxing authority. Here is a link to the New York City Department of Taxation and Finance for tax information and tax forms. SEARCH ENGINESThere are many search engines you can use to search for information on the internet. Each one performs the search in a slightly different way and may search different areas of the internet. The search engines we like best are Google, and Ask. NEW YORK STATENASSAU COUNTYSUFFOLK COUNTYNEW YORK CITYThe above links connect you to the home pages of New York State, Nassau County, Suffolk County and New York City. They are interesting places to visit on the internet and in person. Our office, located in Syosset, NY is in Nassau County, just west of the Suffolk County border. Most of our clients are in the above four areas. Of course New York City includes not only Manhattan, but also the other four boroughs of (in alphabetical order) the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Did you know that the Bronx is the only part of New York City that is attached to the mainland of the United States? Brooklyn and Queens are located on the western end of Long Island (which includes Nassau and Suffolk Counties). Manhattan and Staten Island are islands as well. INTERNET MOVIE DATA BASEDid you ever watch a movie and wonder what other movies the actors were in? Can't remember what movie a particular actor starred in? Want to see a movie, but can't find a review or a plot summary? The internet movie data base (IMDB) has a wealth of information about movies. The hyperlink on this page is for US movies only. TELEPHONE NUMBERSDid you ever have a telephone number written on a piece of paper with no name. Doesn't it drive you crazy trying to figure out whose telephone number it is? Now you can find out at Anywho Directories. This site not only contains reverse telephone directories, you can also use the sites to find people, businesses, toll free telephone numbers and websites (by using a variety of search engines). We find it useful for finding out of state telephone numbers. It can also give you a list of other people or businesses on the same street as the one you are seeking. Or you can type the phone number into Google and click search. You may get the name, address and a map to accompany your phone number. NEWSPAPERSThere is a multitude of newspapers on line. Some of the newspapers in our geographic area are New York Times, Newsday, Long Island Business News and the Syosset-Jericho Tribune. UNITED PARCEL SERVICE OF AMERICA, INC.When we send overnight letters, tax returns, etc. we usually use UPS. We also use Airborne and Federal Express. You can use the respective carriers' websites to trace letters and packages you have sent. There is a UPS drop box on the corner of Main Street and Gibson Avenue. The nearest Federal Express drop box is located at the Post Office in Huntington. For our regular day to day mail we use the United States Postal Service. We use certified mail, return receipt requested, to obtain a receipt from government taxing authorities when we correspond with them on behalf of our clients. This helps us demonstrate that we did mail the information to the taxing authorities and that they received the information. We advise our clients to do the same, especially if there is no payment sent with their mailing (if payment is sent, the cancelled check can demonstrate that the government received the correspondence).
